How do I get a teekkari cap?
All freshmen are given a freshman pass “fuksi pass” at the beginning of their studies. If you complete your pass successfully, you can get your teekkari cap on May Day eve at the capping ceremony. You get points for you pass for example, for participating in events and helping to organize them, sewing coverall badges and completing course credits. Members of Digit have the possibility to either fill digital or physical copy of freshman pass.
Digit orders caps once a year, usually around the beginning of the year, so you should actively follow Digit's communications to make sure you don't miss out on the group order. Caps are handmade by E.R. Wahlmann. The price of the cap with Turku University's Lyyra is around 135 €.
Where can I order student overalls?
Digit's black overalls will be ordered during the first weeks of study (autumn), and usually they arrive at the end of November at the latest. The overalls cost 20 euros, note that you must also be a member of the Digit ry (5 € per 1 year OR 20 € per 5 years). You should place the overall order in the first weeks based on instructions given by your tutor. If you can't join the orientation week, ask your tutor for advice on ordering or send a message to digit(a)utu.fi as soon as possible.
I would like to participate in student organization activities. What exactly do they do there?
The student organization, or guild, takes care of the common questions of all students in the same field and organizes events and hobby activities for its members. If you wish, you can apply to join the board of the guild or volunteer to help organize activities. At Digit, volunteers are responsible, for example, for running clubs and various committees.
Applications to join the organisation are usually made at the annual meeting in autumn or during the recruitment process announced at the end of the year.
What does Digit's board do?
The board's task is to implement the decisions made at Digit's official meetings, manage the guild's practical operations and administration, and represent the guild at various events. In practice, the board holds meetings, maintains close contact with representatives of the university, organizes events and versatile leisure activities, is responsible for coordinating the work of the volunteers, acquires sponsors and actively communicates both its own activities and those of its partners.
Academic freedom sounds great, is it still worth going to the lectures?
Academic freedom comes with academic responsibility and everyone is responsible for their own learning. Not everyone benefits from lecture teaching, but in that case, learning has to be done in other ways. You should also remember that there are also compulsory lectures, so you should be careful with these.
How do I get points in the digital freshman pass?
Points are not automatically updated in the app. For example, a tutor or a board member will be asked for the points. By showing a personal QR code in the app, a person with admin rights can add the points.
